CULTIVATE GODLY, HEALTHY AND POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS

Image
CULTIVATE GODLY, HEALTHY AND POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS Godly, healthy and positive relationships are basically relationships that move you forward in every aspect of life. They are value adding relationships which help to bring out the best in each party involved in the relationship. They are relationships which are not built on immediate one time benefits but rather on long term increase and productivity. They are relationships where boundaries are not dismissed but are rather celebrated. Relationships where God is the founder and pillar of the relationship and where truth is embraced no matter how bitter it may sound. These relationships stand the test of time and are very strategic in our preparation for the future. They help in building in us the right attitude and character for the journey ahead of us. They are important in improving our day to day decision making and lifestyle. Proverbs 27:17 says, ‘Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend’. Also, it

HANDLING FAILURE !!

HANDLING FAILURE ( IN MEDICAL SCHOOL) Failure!!! I think about that word and i wonder, what is failure? What is the yadstick for its measurement? Sometimes failure can be a relative term because what might mean failure to one person might be good ground to another. But every organization has its definition for failure and so do medical schools. In medical school, it is anything below the 50mark. There's really nothing new under the sun, people have failed before, people are failing now and people would still fail in the future, thats just the order of things, its like when Jesus said "you'd always have the poor among you" it wasn't a curse, it was a statement of truth. But does anyone desire to fail? well I dont think any rational person does, do you? So that establishes failure as an undesirable event. Let me tell my story.. In pre-clinical school I was doing pretty well I passed all my incourses except one (neurophysiology) and most of my scores were abo

PICK YOURSELF UP AND START ALL OVER !

PICK YOURSELF UP AND START ALL OVER!!! Have you ever failed before?...well, I have...and these failures are lesser known stories....you see, we have all failed and we will all fail at some point...especially as medical students. I remember my first 'failure' in preclinicals. It was in my first anatomy dissection practical...I was excited, I always was then and in came the brilliant Dr Ashaolu  to introduce us to anatomy dissection. Several human bones were placed in front of us that day and we all watched in amazement how these contoured brown sticks were from actual people that lived. Dr Ashaolu beckoned to my class rep (Titilola) and asked her to point out the best 'student' in class and for some reason, she called two (2) of us and up we stood. He turned to me, and briskly said- "describe the bone in front of you!"...I went into shock. All I could see was some 'fan shaped bone with a weirdly shaped handle and uneven lines'. I was dumbstr

WHY ATTEND LECTURES

Image
Why attend lectures when we have textbooks: Precision   During my 200 level days we had a lecturer who always gave us a brief test on the assignment she gave the last class, I enjoyed it sometimes but like every other student I also complained about the fact that the time given was too short. After giving about three tests like that I was in her office and a student complained about the issue of time and she replied saying ‘’ We know you medical students have read a lot of things and you’re ready to pour them out, but the lecturer is not interested in the stuffs you have, he’s interested in hearing some things he considers basic and important. Besides, he most likely has forgotten most of what you’re talking about, but he can’t forget those things that he considers basic or necessary’’. Mr. A; why do you stab lectures? Mr. B; why do I need to attend lectures when I can read the same thing from my textbook!              This is one of the most common responses many student

ANTI - FOOTBALL???

Anti – Football (Football without its beauty)         The just concluded UEFA EURO 2016 will be remembered for many occurrences like the violence between English and Russian fans, the surprising display of Iceland, the handball-like displays of two German footballers in the knockout stages of the competition and Cristiano Ronaldo’s theatrics from the touchline in the final match between Portugal and France. However, one disturbing part of the competition that would always be noted in the record books was Portugal’s display of Anti – Football in the final match of the competition. They were just so defensive and lacking flair in the final third especially after Ronaldo’s injury. Other teams like Iceland were also thought to have deployed negative football tactics with Ronaldo’s tongue lashing towards the little country termed unnecessary and an act of arrogance. Fernando Santos’ Portugal team were singled out for criticism because they played uninteresting football throughou
